The Disneyland Resort brought Disney magic to Blue Star Families at Camp Pendleton this week. In a special event on the base, nearly 500 military kids and their families were treated to a special screening of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5. They were also surprised by being given tickets to Disneyland by Josh D’Amaro, Chief Executive of The Walt Disney Company.
“For decades, Disney has honored the service and sacrifice of U.S. military members, veterans, and their families. We’re proud to continue that legacy alongside Blue Star Families by creating moments for military families to come together, make lasting memories, and feel the appreciation they so deeply deserve,” said Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro.
The tickets weren’t the only surprise that happened during the event. There were also surprise appearances by Woody and Buzz Lightyear, Mickey Mouse, giveaways, and even messages from the creative talent behind the film. This created a memorable day that was full of connection and appreciation for those who serve the United States of America.
The event is a continuation of Disney’s nearly 15-year partnership with Blue Star Families. It is also part of the broader Disney Celebrates America initiative that is connected with the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. This initiative includes a $2.5 million commitment to support military family well-being.
Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO and co-founder of Blue Star Families, said, “Military families serve our nation every day, often behind the scenes and without recognition. We are grateful to Disney for its continued commitment to creating meaningful experiences that bring military families together. Events like this provide more than just entertainment—they foster connection, strengthen community, and remind military families that their service and sacrifices are seen and valued.”

This special event, and all of Disney’s work with Blue Star Families, helps support a very important part of the support system for service members: their families. Every day, military families also serve behind the scenes. They support their family members who are actively serving, and they sacrifice for the greater good of the nation. It has been shown that their well-being is directly tied to readiness and retention. These types of events create meaningful moments of connection, community, and recognition.
The Walt Disney Company has a long legacy of admiration and support for the U.S. Armed Forces. This dates back throughout its entire 100-year history and began before the company existed, with founders Walt and Roy O. Disney both serving their country during World War I. This particular event is a part of a series of high-profile 2026 moments where Disney and Blue Star Families are showing up for military families coast-to-coast.
