On this day in 1991, ‘The Rocketeer’ premiered at the newly renovated El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Modeled after 1930s pulp fiction comics, ‘The Rocketeer’ follows Cliff Secord, a pilot who discovers a rocket pack that allows him to perform high-flying heroics. The El Capitan’s grand re-opening for this film marked the completion of a two-year refurbishment by Disney and Pacific Theatres. The effort was guided by the U.S. Department of the Interior and cost $14 million, equal to over $35 million today! [35 years ago in 2026]
