This week, the legendary actress Jenifer Lewis, who also voiced Mama Odie in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, visited the brand-new Tiana’s Joyful Celebration traveling exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
This was the first time that Lewis visited this first-ever museum exhibit that is centered around Disney’s Princess Tiana. Lewis is a part of the experience. She reprises the role of Mama Odie and brings a bit of “special spice” to the joyful celebration of New Orleans’ rich, vibrant traditions of community and culture. While visiting, she sang, danced, and chatted with the families who were also visiting at the same time.

Tiana’s Joyful Celebration is just at the start of a five-year journey that will see it traveling to museums around the country. This began in Indianapolis and will continue in Los Angeles in February, followed by Everett, Washington; Dearborn, Michigan; Atlanta, Georgia; Fort Worth, Texas; Tampa, Florida; and other locations.
This isn’t the only time that the veteran actress, singer, and entertainer has reprised her movie role as Mama Odie. She also lent her voice to the character for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This attraction can be found at Walt Disney World and Disneyland (video below). She is known as the “Mother of Black Hollywood.” She has also starred in Black-ish, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Sister Act, and Beaches, along with many other iconic films and TV shows.
