On this day in 1956, the first president of Indonesia, Dr. Sukarno, became the first head of state to visit Disneyland. He was joined by his 12-year-old son, Guntur, and a diplomatic party on an 18-day state visit and goodwill tour of the United States. Walt Disney showed President Sukarno around the park personally. Both father and son eagerly rode Autopia, Dumbo, and the Jungle Cruise. Guntur even rang the bell in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain, accompanied by Mouseketeers Sharon and Bobby.
