On this day in 1961, the First Annual Disneyland Grad Nite Party took place from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The first year honorees numbered 8,500 from 33 high schools, making Grad Nite the largest graduation party in the U.S. Grads paid $6 to enjoy unlimited attractions, dancing, and entertainment from the King of Swing, Benny Goodman, and actress Annette Funicello, among other stars. Attendance at Grad Nite ballooned to 100,000 in the first 10 years, leading to multiple nights and expansion to Walt Disney World! [65 years ago in 2026]

I wish they would do a throwback or Class Reunion Grad Night DISNEYLAND After Dark (not DCA). 1) for those who didn’t have Grad Night at Disneyland and 2) for those who did have Grad Nite at Disneyland. And people dress in the styles of their high school years. I relinquish all rights to this idea to Disney. Please DO IT!! I’m pretty sure it’d be a smash!
