This summer, Disney+ and Hulu are celebrating Throwbacks. One of the throwbacks that is arriving as part of the Disney+ Hulu Throwbacks is The Brave Little Toaster. After being hard to find for years (if not decades), this beloved film is now available on Disney’s streaming services.

The Brave Little Toaster was produced by Hyperion Pictures and The Kushner-Locke Company and released in 1987. It was briefly in theaters before getting its television release by Disney. It premiered on the Disney Channel on February 27, 1988. The Disney Channel broadcasts and subsequent releases on VHS and LaserDisc helped build the film’s popularity in the coming years. Years later, the film was also released on DVD. However, it has been very hard for fans to find in recent years.
It was directed by Jerry Reese, based on a script written by Reese and Joe Ranft. It stars Deanna Oliver, Timothy E. Day, Jon Lovitz, Tim Stack, Thurl Ravenscroft, Wayne Kaatz, Phil Hartman, Joe Ranft, and Jonathan Benair. The film was made by many CalArts graduates, including the original members of Pixar. It has music written by David Newman.

Five electrical appliances suddenly feel dumped when their young master mysteriously disappears! The dejected toaster rounds up the vacuum cleaner, electric blanket, and bedside lamp and radio, and together, they set off for the big city in search of their beloved owner!
