The Pirates of the Caribbean are currently not singing “yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me.” There is no banjo playing on the bayou as guests dine at Blue Bayou. This is because both the iconic attraction and its accompanying restaurant are closed for a refurbishment. The attraction and restaurant closed after the end of Disneyland’s operating hours on the evening of May 3rd. Guests visiting Disneyland on Monday found walls in front of the doors to the attraction and the doors to the restaurant in New Orleans Square closed.
This closure was scheduled with the restaurant currently set to reopen ahead of the attraction. Currently, it appears that the Blue Bayou will be reopening on May 21st, according to the reservation calendar. However, a post on the Disneyland website says that it will be reopening in late May. Daps Magic team member Steven stopped by Disneyland on Monday morning and took the following photos of the attraction and restaurant on their first day closed. More walls may go up in the future. Check out the photos here:

Pirates of the Caribbean first opened at Disneyland in 1967. The popularity of the attraction led to it being recreated in various iterations in different Disney parks around the globe. This includes the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure. The attraction has spawned successful merchandise, games, and more for Disney. The iconic theme song, written by George Bruns (music) and Xavier Atencio (lyrics), is one of the most memorable Disney theme park tunes.
At this point, there isn’t a specific reopening date for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Daps Magic will continue to monitor its progress and provide updates as they become available.
