Universal Studios Hollywood remains closed on Thursday, January 9, 2024. This is as fires rage across and around the Los Angeles area. Universal Studios Hollywood posted the following on Wednesday night:
Out of an abundance of caution, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed on Thursday, January 9 as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions. As always, the safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority. We continue to assess the situation and are directing guests to visit our website for updates.
Fires broke out in the Los Angeles area earlier this week and have devastated the region. By Thursday morning, there were four major fires in the Los Angeles area. The largest, the Palisades Fire, has burned over 17,000 acres in Pacific Palisades and still has not been contained. It is believed that over 1,0000 homes have been lost to this fire. The Eaton Fire has burned over 10,000 acres in Altadena and Pasadena. Another 1,000 homes have been lost to this fire.
The fires were exacerbated by Santa Ana winds, which were quite strong Tuesday into Wednesday. They began to die down on Wednesday, allowing air support to join the battle against the flames. There is still a long way to go before these fires are defeated. At this point, five people have been confirmed dead. The final count won’t be known until the fires have been defeated.
Up the road in Santa Clarita, Six Flags Magic Mountain also remained closed on Thursday.
Other Southern California theme parks remain open. This includes the Disneyland Resort and Knott’s Berry Farm. Daps Magic will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
