Disneyland Monorail Refurbishment

Monorail Closes for Refurbishment and Work Begins on Downtown Disney Station

The Monorail has once again closed for refurbishment. The reopening date has not been announced at this point. On the Disneyland calendar, the Monorail is currently set to be closed as far out as the calendar goes.

This morning walls could be seen up around the Monorail station in Downtown Disney District and work could be heard behind them. Presumably, this is a part of the main entrance gate upgrades that are happening at the entrances to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The new entrances utilize a more efficient system that streamlines the entry process. It also makes it much quicker for guests to enter the parks.

Daps Magic team member Steven stopped by the Disneyland Resort today and came across the work being done behind the walls of the Downtown Disney District Monorail Station. Below are some photos that he took at the time.

At the Monorail Station in Tomorrowland, the following signs can be seen.

The new entrance system replaces the turnstile system that had been in place for many years. Instead of going through a turnstile, guests enter through a gate that opens after their admission is scanned. They are ADA-compliant and  ECVs, wheelchairs, and strollers can enter through any new entry gate into the parks at the Disneyland Resort. This system can be seen on the west side of the entrances to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure currently. They had been behind walls last year and were revealed in December.

Ahead of the beginning of the upgrade last year, the new entrance gates could be seen at one end of the entrance to Disney California Adventure. At the time, Kevin Gidden, General Manager Arrival Experience said, “We continue to invest in the overall guest experience, and our updated, enhanced entry gates will really elevate the process of arriving at our theme parks. The test entry gate installed at Disney California Adventure Park will enable our teams to get hands-on experience that will help inform the final install beginning later this year.”

Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary

The entire process of replacing the turnstiles with gates is expected to be completed this year. These upgrades come as Disneyland Resort prepares for its 70th Celebration. This celebration begins on May 16, 2025, and continues through the summer of 2026. The celebration will see the return of the Paint the Night parade, the arrival of Walt Disney – A Magical Life, and a whole lot more!
