Tropical Americas Groundbreaking

Groundbreaking Held for Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Ground has officially been broken for the upcoming Tropical Americas area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Tropical Americas was first announced at the Destination D23 event in September 2023, which was held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. This new area will replace the existing Dinoland U.S.A., however, Dinosaur will continue operating throughout 2025.

Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will feature two new signature attractions – a thrilling adventure following the heroic Indiana Jones into an ancient Maya temple and a journey through the Casita Madrigal from “Encanto” following Antonio’s story on the day after he received his magical gift. It will also feature a beautiful carousel featuring animals from many favorite Disney stories, perfect for young families to enjoy. Tropical Americas is set to open in 2027.

In videos shared on the Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram, which featured part of the groundbreaking ceremony, Imagineers were on hand, including Courtney Zurich, Principal Project Manager, who welcomed everyone to the groundbreaking.

Senior Producer Humberto Kam said, “thank you for everything you’ve done. All of your passion and dedication that has gone towards this project. That’s going to make it a truly amazing addition to Animal Kingdom.”

Joan Hartwig, Executive Creative Director, added, “Most importantly, the guests coming here are going to experience all of that magic you are putting in now. They’re going to feel it when they come to Tropical Americas. So I just want to say congratulations on this milestone, and to express my appreciation to each and every one of you for all of your contributions.”

Maryann Smith, Vice President of Disney’s Animal Kingdom closed out the groundbreaking and said, “Thank you. Be safe, and lets grow.”
