Disney Earns 15 Academy Awards Nominations with ‘A Complete Unknown’ Leading the Way

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday morning. Among the announcements, Disney itself earned 15 nominations for its movies. These came from across Disney’s different studios and brands. This included 20th Century Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Searchlight Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, and National Geographic Documentary Films. Many of these films are now on Disney+ and Hulu platforms.

A Complete Unknown led the way with 8 nominations. Nominations for the Searchlight Films flick about the life of Bob Dylan included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. Inside Out 2 from Pixar Animation Studios also earned a nomination for Best Animated Picture. This was the highest-grossing film of 2024 and the most successful animated feature of all time.

Other films of note include Alien: Romulus and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with its two nominations, Elton John: Never Too Late with a nomination for Best Original Song, and A Real Pain also receiving two nominations. The 97th Academy Awards will be airing on ABC and live stream on Hulu on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 7:00 PM PT. The official red carpet show will begin at 6:30 PM PT. The ceremony will be broadcast internationally on Disney+ along with airing on broadcast outlets globally.
