‘Moana 2’ Continues to Sail to Success at the Box Office

Moana 2 continues to be sailing strong at the box office. This weekend, it had another solid weekend and took the top spot with $52 million at the domestic box office. This makes it the record holder for the second weekend after Thanksgiving. Previously, Frozen II held that title for the weekend after Thanksgiving with $32.5 million.

Overall, Moana 2 has now pulled in $300 million domestically. This has surpassed Moana’s total box office earnings. The original film brought in $248.7 million during its theatrical run. The sequel surpassed the original in just 10 days. Globally, Moana 2 has now earned $600 million. The originally topped out globally at $582 million.

With this weekend’s haul, Moana 2 is now one of the top five films of 2024. This means that three of the top five films this year have come from Disney. Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. This also comes before Mufasa: The Lion King arrives in theaters on December 20.

The film also features returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina), as well as the voices of Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele and Loto, respectively. Awhimai Fraser voices mysterious new character Matangi; Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa; and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Moana’s adoring and adorable little sister, Simea.
