Frozen: The Official Cookbook Review

Frozen: The Official Cookbook – Mr. Daps’ Review

In 2013 the world was introduced to the world of Arendelle with the arrival of Frozen in theaters. Today, there is another movie (with more on the way), themed lands in Disney Parks, attractions, specials, books, and more! The Frozen phenomenon is as big as ever and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. This holiday season, fans of Frozen can have fun creating some fun foods and beverages that are themed to this frigidly awesome franchise. This can be done with the new Frozen: The Official Cookbook. Before getting into this book, it is easy to say that this one is a fun one for Frozen fans and my niece would love it!

The Frozen: The Official Cookbook is divided into multiple sections to make it easy to pick a recipe for whatever you are cooking for. They include:

  • Breakfast
  • Appetizers, Sides, and Salads
  • Soups
  • Entrees
  • Desserts
  • Drinks

Each of the recipes in the cookbook connects to the Frozen story/characters in the introduction paragraph. There are also connections to the Norwegian and Swedish cultures and traditions with the recipes. The book does a nice job of connecting Frozen with these Scandinavian cultures.

For the most part, these recipes are fairly accessible and should be fun to create by Frozen fans of all ages. Working through this cookbook, there really aren’t any recipes that seem too advanced for a home cook. There definitely are some that need adult supervision/help but cooking together is more fun anyway, right!?

There are a couple of recipes that stand out to me that definitely need to be tried. My favorite recipe is the Brown Butter Lefse with Spiced Pears and Thyme. If you’ve ever had the Lefse at the Norway Pavilion in EPCOT, you’ll know why I’m excited about it! These are delicious! Other standouts were the “Two Sisters, One Mind” Pancakes, the Palace Steps Royal Potatoes, A Thousand Reasons Meatballs, Steak with Creamy Wild Mushrooms, and the Nonalcoholic Hot Glogg in the Great Hall. There are plenty more.

In general, I found myself quite excited by most of these recipes. Perhaps this is because I have a Norway who introduced my family to Norwegian food when I was a child. It could also be that growing up in Northern Minnesota also influenced my preferences. Whatever the reason, I found myself getting very excited about quite a few of the recipes in this book. Some of them are already tabbed for regularly returning to!

Frozen: The Official Cookbook is one of the more themed cookbooks out there. It has good recipes. It has lovely artwork and pictures. It connects with the Frozen franchise and Scandinavian cultures in a way that makes sense and adds to the dish that is being made. This one is a definite must-have for Frozen fans who like to cook. It’s great for a viewing party, a themed birthday party, or just for fun! I take my hat off for this one.
