Monsters to Replace Muppets and Muppets to Replace Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This summer at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event it was announced that Monsters, Inc. would be getting a presence in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the form of its own land. This will be complete with a new coaster that is a suspended ride that recreates the door scene from Monsters, Inc. At the time, not many details were shared about this new land beyond this, including where this land will be.

Goodbye Muppets, Hello Monsters

Today Disney announced that this Monsters, Inc. land will be taking the place currently inhabited by Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo. Disney also shared that the new Monsters, Inc. land will include a dining establishment and some sort of theatrical show. Details about these have not been released at this point.

For those who are sad about the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo, Disney says that it is “having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”

Goodbye Aerosmith, Hello Muppets

While the Muppets may no longer be found in Muppet*Vision 3D, they will be finding a new home in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and other Muppet friends will be heading over to Sunset Boulevard. There, “The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. This will be the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets. It promises to be full of laughter, screams, and new tunes for the attraction when guests experience what is being billed as an “adventure.” There will also be plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard.

Musical Chairs Timing

So when are all these changes happening? Not immediately. The Disney Parks Blog shared that there will still be time for guests to enjoy both Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D before they close. An exact closing date has not been announced at this time. Daps Magic will report on specific dates as they become known. Disney shared that more updates about these new experiences will be announced next year.
