Inside Out 2 continues to garner more success. Over the weekend, the Pixar film reached a new milestone. It overcame 2019’s The Lion King globally to become the 9th biggest movie of all time. As of Sunday, the film had brought in $1.66 billion globally. The Lion King brought in $1.65 billion globally during its theatrical run.
There have been some arguments in recent months regarding Inside Out 2′s status as the top animated film of all time. This comes mainly from the viewpoint that The Lion King‘s CGI means that it was animated as well. With this new update, Inside Out 2 is indisputably the holder of the top spot for an animated film.
Inside Out 2 was released in theaters on June 14, 2024. The film tells the next chapter of Riley’s life, the little girl who was introduced in the first film. In this movie, she is now a teenager who is facing high school. This new experience brings on new emotions. This creates conflict inside Riley as her old emotions and her new emotions have to figure out how to work together. The new emotions include Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and Nostalgia (June Squibb). They join the returning emotions of Joy (Amy Pohler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Liza Lapira), Fear (Tony Hale), and Anger (Lewis Black). It is directed by Kelsey Mann.
