Frozen Let It Go

‘Let It Go’ From ‘Frozen’ Achieves RIAA® Diamond Status

The hit song Let It Go from the equally popular Walt Disney Animated Studios film Frozen has achieved RIAA® Diamond Status. This means that it has achieved 10 million sales. It also is a first for Walt Disney Records. To celebrate this achievement, on Saturday at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Music Group President Ken Bunt presented two Diamond plaques to songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Disney Legend Idina Menzel performed Let It Go and it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2014. It also won a GRAMMY Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media in 2015. The Frozen Original Soundtrack includes eight songs from Anderson-Lopez and Lopez. It also has a score by the award-winning composer Christophe Beck.

In 2023, Lopez shared about the success of Let It Go and its enduring impact.

“In the documentary series about Frozen 2Into the Unknown, there’s a scene where one of the animators shows the directors this letter about ‘Let It Go,’” Lopez shared. “This girl shared her experience of having been really depressed and thanked Disney for changing her life and being her strength in a moment of need. That got me.”

Lopez continued and explained that his collaborators were hoping to help the narrative of the film along while also writing something meaningful to themselves. “We never were trying to help a girl get through a tough time. But it turns out that’s the purpose of this,” Lopez said. “At its best, music can save people’s lives. It can help people get through rough times. That’s one of the functions of art. And God bless Disney for having the reach that it does, in terms of in terms of helping people all over the world.”

Menzel accepted the Diamond certification on American Idol earlier this year also has shared about the song’s impact. “It’s been this incredible gift in my life. What’s so beautiful is that not only does Elsa connect with a young audience, but she gives us all permission to be our greatest selves,” she said. “And because I get to perform the song over and over, she never goes away. When I’m feeling down or insecure about my own power, she reminds me to harness that. So, it’s really been this constant gift that just keeps on giving.”

Frozen really is the “gift that just keeps giving.” Through the years, it has led to sequels, a musical, and even attractions and lands in the Disney Parks. Looking forward, Disney on Broadway’s Frozen was filmed onstage and will be premiering on Disney+ in 2025. Samantha Barks, who stars as Elsa in that production, performed Let It Go at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. There are also two new Frozen films on the way. Jennifer Lee, president of Walt Disney Animation Studios, shared concept art for Frozen 3. The film will be arriving in theaters on November 24, 2027.

Along with the new productions coming to screens, there will be new Frozen representations in the parks. Last year, a Frozen-themed land opened at Hong Kong Disneyland. As Disneyland Paris continues to expand, a new World of Frozen will be opening at its second park Disney Adventure World in 2026. This is a part of the largest expansion and transformation at Disneyland Paris yet!

There is also plenty of merchandise options for Frozen fans to enjoy as well. This includes apparel, books, costumes, games toys, and more. While Frozen already has a solid legacy that is being built. It also has an exciting future to look forward to as well.
