On this day in 1939, the New York World’s Fair celebrated Donald Duck Day. A 3-foot-tall model of Donald was flown in to take part in the event, since this was before the days of walk-around characters. Donald’s new short, ‘Donald’s Penguin,’ premiered and was shown every half hour. A band parade and free gifts delighted children. The main event was a ceremony where Donald was awarded an honorary Doctor of International Friendship degree from Yale University. [85 years ago in 2024]
