On this day in 1964, Disneyland’s Dapper Dans participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Anaheim Stadium, home of the Angels. They sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to a crowd of 4,000 guests and dignitaries, including the team’s owner Gene Autry, the mayors of LA and Anaheim, and the widow of the song’s composer. Construction on the $24 million stadium would take about two years. It opened in time for the 1966 baseball season. [60 years ago in 2024]
