Inside Out 2 has reached a new milestone in a string of successes for Pixar’s newest film. The film is now the highest grossing Pixar film of all time. This week it passed up Incredibles 2 for the top spot. It also is the fourth most successful animated film of all time now. With the track it is currently on, it could end up taking the top spot.
As of Tuesday night, Inside Out 2 has earned $1.251 billion globally at the box office. Domestically the film has brought in $543.5 million. This makes it the third highest grossing animated film of all time domestically. Internationally it has brought in $708 million. This puts it as the eighth most successful animated film internationally.
Currently, the movie is just days away from overtaking Frozen and its $1.274 billion at the box office. It will also most likely pass The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its $1.461 billion haul. The bigger question mark is on if it can pass up Frozen II’s $1.451 billion to take the top spot. Quite a few analysts believe this is possible.
The film has yet to open in Japan. In South Korea, which has a similar market to Japan, the film has brought in a staggering $49 million. The sequel is also doing solid business in Latin America. The film has also shown more than expected strength in Europe as well.
Inside Out 2 continues the story of the emotions inside of a little girl named Riley’s head. However, Riley isn’t so little anymore. Now she is a teenager who is facing a bigger world with new situations. With these new things come new emotions. This includes Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and Nostalgia (June Squibb). They join returning characters Joy (Amy Pohler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Liza Lapira), Fear (Tony Hale), and Anger (Lewis Black). It is directed by Kelsey Mann.
