Gillian Anderson Joins ‘Tron: Ares’ Cast

Gillian Anderson, known for her role as Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files, has joined the cast of Tron: Ares. What her role in the film will be isn’t known at this point. She more recently has appeared on shows like The Crown and will be joining the cast for Tron: Ares that includes Jared Leto along with Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan. Filming began on Tron: Ares last week. It is being directed by Joachim Rønning, who made the announcement that filming had begun.

The original Tron (1982) throws fans into a neon-drenched digital world where genius computer programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) gets sucked into the mainframe of his own company. Trapped there, he becomes a gladiator forced to compete in deadly games for the amusement of the Master Control Program, an all-powerful AI. His unlikely allies? Tron (Bruce Boxleitner), a valiant security program, and Yori (Cindy Morgan), a rebellious data sprite. Together, they navigate the treacherous landscape of the mainframe, face off against ruthless programs, and fight for survival in a stunning battle for freedom.

In Tron: Ares, Jared Leto will be portraying a characters named Ares who makes the crossover from the digital world of videogames to physical planet Earth. Rønning has shared that the movie is “about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human.” A specific release date or synopsis for the film has not been announced at this time.
