A new trailer has been released for the upcoming film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. In this new trailer for Disney’s Wish, fans get to see what the music is going to be like for this film. They also get introduced to some new characters that will be joining Asha (Ariana DeBose) in this musical adventure. The trailer appears to show a return to a classic Disney animated film that is about wishing on stars, singing songs, and having a classic Disney villain trying to chase their own agenda at whatever the cost.
Wish welcomes audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

Wish will be released on November 22, 2023. This movie will answer the age old question of how the Wishing Star came to be. It is perhaps a way that many wouldn’t expect, when Asha makes a wish one night she ends up meeting Star,” an energetic and cosmic character from the starry sky which she unintentionally summoned with her wish. This all happens in the magical kingdom of Rosas, which is ruled by King Magnifico (Chris Pine). King Magnifico also is Disney’s newest villain, who’s creation was inspired by classic Disney villains like the Evil Queen and Maleficent.
Other members of this vocal cast include:
- Alan Tudyk – Asha’s pet goat Valentino
- Victor Garber – Asha’s 100-year old grandfather Sabino who is still waiting for his wish
- Natasha Rothwell – Asha’s loving and supportive mom, Sakina
- Jennifer Kumiyama – Asha’s dearest friend, Dahlia, who’s an accomplished baker and unofficial leader of their group

- Harvey Guillén – Gabo may be cynical, but he has a heart of gold
- Ramy Youseff – Safi, who’s plagued by allergies
- Niko Vargas – Asha’s joyful, always smiling buddy, Hal
- Della Saba – the seemingly shy teenager, Bazeema, who’s full of surprises
- Jon Rudnitsky – Asha’s rosy-cheeked, wiggly-eared pal, Dario
Writer and Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios Jennifer Lee shared about the film saying, “Asha is the ultimate ordinary hero. Asha is at that precipice in life where she is an idealist, open, accepting and having fun. Disney’s newest heroine sees the world reveal its flaws as she goes on her journey. She starts to feel that fire that a lot of people feel at that age of ‘this isn’t right, what am I going to do?’ We watch her become a full participant in the world and see the impact you can have.”
Lee hopes that Asha’s journey will be relatable. She shared about Asha saying, “She’s so inviting, warm and so honest about it that I feel it carries you through in a way where it doesn’t bring you down, it lifts you up.”
Wish the film is directed by Academy Award® winner Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn and produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones. Jennifer Lee executive produces, with Lee and Allison Moore serving as writers. Grammy®-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice came together to write seven songs for Wish. These songs are accompanied by a score written by longtime Disney orchestrator Dave Metzger. This is Metzger’s debut as a composer for a feature film.
