The area around the Disneyland Resort is now under a Tropical Storm Watch, a first for California, as Hurricane Hilary continues to moves closer to California. While the storm is a hurricane currently, it is projected to be a tropical storm by the time it hits Southern California. This will be unlike anything that most people in California have ever experienced before.
It is forecasted that the storm should be arriving in Southern California on Sunday night. With it will come an unprecedented amount of rain. This could cause some major issues with flooding, mudslides, and other destruction that a large amount of water with accompanying wind could bring. There could be more rain dumped on Southern California in the span of a couple of days than generally comes down in a year in the same area. Orange County, where the Disneyland Resort is found, is expected to get anywhere from 2-4 inches of rain. Wind gusts could range from 20-40 miles per hour with gusts as high as 60 miles per hour.
Meteorologists are currently predicting that the storm will be a tropical storm by the time it reaches California. Currently the Tropical Storm Watch stretches from San Diego up to and through Los Angeles County. Hilary will slowly weaken as it moves forward and enters cooler water.
As the storm continues to move closer, both residents and tourists should continue to pay attention to weather reports and follow the advice of officials. For those at the Disneyland Resort, watch the official social media channels and follow the guidance of Disney Cast Members.
With whatever ends up happening with Hurricane Hillary, remember that everyone is all in this together. Come together, work together, support each other, and remember that everyone handles things differently. With that in mind, keep kind and try to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem as things continue to move forward.
Daps Magic will continue to follow the progress of Hurricane Hilary and provide updates as they become available.
