Elemental is the movie that just keeps swimming. After a fairly weak start, the newest Pixar movie continues to move forward at the box office. Most recently, it has passed the $400 million mark at the global box office. The film has now brought in $146.2 million domestically and $257.5 million internationally. In total it has now garnered $403.7 million.

The milestone that this movie has reached was unthinkable in June when the movie had an opening weekend of only $29.6 million at the box office. However, a weak start was not the end of the story for Elemental. The movie continued to show legs at the box office throughout the summer. It passed up DC’s summer tentpole film The Flash which has brought in $107 million domestically and $268.3 million globally. It also has far surpassed last year’s Lightyear’s box office results which topped out at $218.8 million globally.
Overseas, Elemental has shown some real promise as well. It has done very well in Korea where it has brought in $44.8 million to date. This puts it as the third most successful animated film in the country of all time, behind the two Frozen films. It also is the second most successful movie in Korea this year, after Round Up. Perhaps most impressively, it is the fifth most successful movie since the pandemic. It follows Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
There is still more room for the Elemental box office results to grow. The film will be opening in Japan on Friday. With a production budget believed to be around $200 million, this film won’t be the box office loser that it originally was thought to be.
