Disney and Pixar’s Elemental continues to slowly and steadily move forward at the global box office. Over the weekend, the 27th Pixar film brought in an additional $24 million. The breakdown of Elementals box office results split with $5.8 million from the domestic box office and  $18.2 million at international box offices. The film has a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is certified fresh. Audiences rated it 93%.

Elemental has seen success in some unexpected places, Korea being one of them. There it has become the most viewed Pixar movie ever released in that country. As of Monday, 5.03 million people have seen the film. This was as of the 40th day since the movie was released. The data was compiled by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). Elemental surprassed Inside Out’s 4.97 million viewers, which previously was the most viewed Pixar film in the country.

Currently the film is the third most successful movie in Korea this year. It has garnered $38.5 million in the Korean box office. The film is directed by Korean-American director Peter Sohn. The film was inspired by his own experiences as a child in New York with parents who immigrated to Korea and made sacrifices.

To be considered a bonified success, Elemental still has some more ground to cover at the box office. The budget for the film is reportedly around $200 million. In general, a film needs to at least double its production budget at the box office to break even. Profit would follow that as ticket sales are divided between movie theaters and the studios. However, as the world continues to recover from the pandemic and the impacts it had on changing viewing behavior as fans came to expect Pixar films to be streamed on on Disney+, the definition of success for this film might be different for Disney. At this point, it does seem that the film is exceeding the initial expectations of analysts.

There isn’t a a specific date for when Elemental will be arriving on Disney+. Daps Magic will continue to follow the progress of Elemental and provide updates as they become available.

Currently at Disney California Adventure, there is a special Elemental pre-show that is shown before World of Color – ONE. it is unknown how long this limited offering will be shown at the Disneyland Resort.

Elemental Official Description

Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental,” an all-new original feature film that transports moviegoers to an extraordinary place called Element City, where a host of elements live and work. The trailer showcases each element—air, earth, water and fire—and what sets them apart according to Ember, a quick-witted and fiery woman who’s always stayed close to home in Firetown.

In “Elemental,” which opens in theaters on June 16, she finally ventures out of her comfort zone to explore this spectacular world born from the imaginations of Pixar’s filmmakers and specifically crafted for the big-screen experience. Element City is inspired by big cities around the globe and embraces theorized contributions from each elemental community—from giant pine-tree-like buildings and waterfall skyscrapers to a tornado-shaped arena called Cyclone Stadium.

The voice cast includes Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade, respectively. The cast also includes Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s soon-to-be retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember’s admiring earth neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.

Directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, p.g.a., and executive produced by Pete Docter, “Elemental” features a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh with story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel and Hsueh. The film’s original score was composed and conducted by Thomas Newman.
