“The Little Mermaid” Soundtrack Swims Past Animated Original on Billboard Charts

The soundtrack for this year’s live-action The Little Mermaid is doing swimmingly on the Billboard Charts. In fact, it just swam past the 1989 animated classic version of the soundtrack with Jodi Benson providing the voice for the title character. In 2023, Halle Bailey has taken up the role and audiences are falling in love with both her acting and her voice.

The Little Mermaid soundtrack debuted in the number 4 spot on Billboard’s Soundtracks chart. In its second week, this jumped to the first spot. This is not the first live-action Disney remake to achieve this. Previously, other live-action Disney reimaginings of animated movies have hit the top spot on the Billboard charts. This includes Aladdin (in 2019), The Lion King (The Lion King: The Gift, credited to Beyoncé and various artists; in 2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).
