Jaleel White, Formerly Steve Urkel in “Family Matters,” Confirms “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” Role

Many people know Jaleel White as Steve Urkel from Family Matter. Soon, people will know him for a role in Star Wars. The actor recently confirmed that he is a part of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew while on a Sportsnet watching an Edmonton Oilers NHL game. The actor confirmed that he will be in the series and also that he will be playing a pirate… which takes quite some time to get the makeup done for.

“I’m actually going to be in a new series on Disney+ starring Jude Law called Skeleton Crew,” White stated. “Yeah, it’s coming out in … November/December, and it’s part of the Star Wars universe. So that’s a big change for me, man. I had to do two hours of makeup every day. I get to play a pirate.”

This is the first confirmation that White will be going to a galaxy far, far away. It isn’t the first time he has lent his talents to a franchise. He has lent his voice to Sonic the Hedgehog in various television shows. This includes Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Description

“Skeleton Crew” follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law and takes place during the era of the New Republic. This sets this series in around the same series as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Jude Law is said to have a more paternal role in this series and will be joined by actors Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, and Kerry Condon. The series is said to have the feel of the classic Amblin Entertainment movies.

Law shared about his character’s role in the series calling it “complicated” in an interview with Empire. He continued by saying that “his part in shepherding these younglings might not be so simple.” Law continued, “They need guidance, but they’re vulnerable… And so throughout, the people they meet, you question all of them. Is my character nice? Is he not? You just want them to be alright and get back home. But if you know Jon and Chris’ work, you’ll know that the kids aren’t always safe.”

Jon Watts and Chris Ford created Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. It will have multiple directors, as has been the case in several recent Star Wars series. Directors include Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, Peter Pan & Wendy), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert “The Daniels” (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Jake Schreier (Minx), Bryce Dallas Howard (Director, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett), and Lee Isaac Chung (Minari). It is executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Kathleen Kennedy and directed by David Lowery. Production wrapped for this series in January.
