The Lunar New Year is once again being celebrated at the Disneyland Resort in Disney California Adventure. The Lunar New Year Celebration runs through February 15, 2023 and celebrates several cultures. Guests visiting Disney California Adventure will be able to find and experience the traditions of Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean cultures during the celebration. This year, the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of the Cat are being celebrated. This is because it is the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac calendar and the Year of the Cat in the Vietnamese zodiac calendar.
There are plenty of things to experience, watch, eat, and buy during the Lunar New Year celebration. One of the highlights is Mulan’s Lunar New Year Processional. It is offered multiple times throughout the day during the run of this celebration. It makes its way through the park along the path of the parade route starting at Pixar Pier. It is offered at:
- 12:20 PM
- 1:45 PM
- 4:15 PM
- 5:45 PM
This year there are more new Disney friends joining the celebration and meeting with guests. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and his sweetheart Ortensia the cat are joining Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as they don outfits that pay tribute to the cultural celebrations. This is the first time that Ortensia has been seen meeting guests in a U.S. Disney theme park.
At Paradise Gardens and also Sonoma Terrace (new this year), entertainment will be offered throughout the celebration. This will include the Chinese music ensemble Melody of China, the Korean-American a cappella group Vocal Seoul, along with a variety of community performing groups.
For people who love to celebrate with food, there are six Lunar New Year marketplaces with a plethora of foods to try. Two of the marketplaces are brand new this year. The six marketplaces are:
- Bamboo Blessings
- Wrapped with Love
- Lucky 8 Lantern
- Prosperity Bao & Buns
- Red Spice Traders
- Longevity Noodle Co
The Sip and Savor Pass is once again available for guests to get six passes that are redeemable for select food and non-alcoholic drinks.
There is also a lovely collection of merchandise celebrating Lunar New Year that can be found in Disney California Adventure. There is a booth near the entrance of The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure where merchandise from the celebration can be found. For those that want to experience Lunar New Year through different experiences that they can actively participate in, there are some options to be found as well. This includes coloring and sharing messages of hope, health and happiness for the year on the Lucky Wishes Wall. There are also artisans on hand that offer Chinese calligraphy demonstrations. All of these can be found in the Paradise Gardens area. It is a great place to grab a bite, do some arts and crafts, enjoy some entertainment, and see some favorite Disney friends!
In the evenings, Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration will be presented before World of Color on the Paradise Bay.
Daps Magic will continue to film and add videos to this page and playlist throughout the 2023 Lunar New Year Celebration. Check them out and then share your favorite parts of the Lunar New Year Celebration!
