Taylor Swift Signs Deal with Disney to Direct Debut Feature Film

Taylor Swift is currently lobbying for her short film All Too Well: The Short Film to get a nomination for the Academy Awards but she has her sights on something bigger. After writing and directing the short film, she now has her sights on making a feature film. To do this, she has signed a deal with Searchlight Pictures, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company.

Swift reportedly has a script that she will be making with Searchlight Pictures producing. This will be her feature directorial debut. The news comes just a month after Swift made history as the only solo artist to win two best direction awards at MTV’s Video Music Awards. She also became the first artist to win three video of the year awards and is only the second woman to direct the winning video for best longform video.

At this point, there aren’t many details about the movie that Swift is making with Searchlight Pictures. It is just known that a deal has been signed. Her All Too Well: The Short Film is about a manipulative boyfriend played by Dylan O’Brien and a young woman played by Sadie Sink who fall in love and then end up breaking up.

Searchlight Pictures has a solid track record at the Oscars with several films earning the best picture award. This includes Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years a Slave, Birdman, and also The Shape of Water.
