James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office just 14 days after it began its theatrical run. The movie is the fastest to make it to this milestone in 2022 and is the first to do it since Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021. This is only the sixth movie to make it to the $1 billion mark in two weeks, four of which are from The Walt Disney Company.
Last weekend, Avatar: The Way of Water passed Jurassic Park: Dominion to become the second most successful movie of 2022z Top Gun: Maverick still retains the top spot with $770 million. If the James Cameron movie surpasses this, it will be the number one international release of 2022 and the number two since the pandemic.
Domestically, the movie’s box office has been impacted as the country has been hammered by winter weather. Avatar: The Way of Water has crossed $300 million to date domestically.
