‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman in Discussions to Direct ‘Fantastic Four’

Ever since that Fantastic Four logo was revealed and it was known that there would be indeed a new film there have been a couple of questions on everyone’s minds. One, who is going to portray the Fantastic Four? Two, who will direct? The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the second of those two questions has taken one step closer to being answered. Matt Shakman, the WandaVision director, is in talks with Marvel Studios to be the director of Fantastic Four.

Michael Matthews, who directed Love and Monsters, and Reid Carolin who directed Dog were also met about potentially directing the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthews and Shakman were the two finalists. Shakman apparently is winning out at this point between the two.

Shakman made a name for himself in television. He first gained recognition for directing the comedy show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He went on to work on Game of Thrones before bringing WandaVision to Disney+ as Marvel Studios’ first series on the streaming service. He was also said to be directing the next Star Trek film that is supposed to be released on December 22, 2023. This movie was announced in 2021 and it is unknown if he is still attached to it.

Fantastic Four is set to be released on November 8, 2024. It will kick off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski appeared as a version of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. Because it was an alternative universe version of the character, it isn’t known if Krasinski will be returning to the role for this movie.

The Fantastic Four comic book debuted in 1961 and included Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing. Writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby created the characters. This comic would launch the Marvel Universe. This newest film version of Fantastic Four in December 2020 during Disney investor day by Kevin Feige. At the time, Spider-Man director Jon Watts was set to helm the project.
