Today the Disneyland Resort announced that Tale of the Lion King will be opening at the Fantasyland Theatre on May 28th. This show’s opening will come as Disneyland Resort continues to “celebrate soulfully” throughout the summer. Along with this show, Disneyland Resort will continue to Celebrate Soulfully in June with a focus on Black Music Month. This will include daily entertainment and other offerings including food, art, and more!
Tale of the Lion King Description
Beginning May 28, 2022, Disneyland park will welcome “Tale of the Lion King” to its new home at the Fantasyland Theatre where this original, story-theatre adaptation of Disney’s “The Lion King” will be staged in an all-new presentation (as depicted in this artist rendering). At the heart of the production is a traveling troupe known as The Storytellers of the Pride Lands who weave the tale of how a cub becomes a king through dialogue, song, dance and percussion. From the scenic and costume designs to the new original musical arrangements and choreography, every aspect of “Tale of the Lion King” honors and is inspired by the cultural roots of this timeless story.
With the arrival of Tale of the Lion King, the Troubadour Tavern will be returning with specialty offerings that are inspired by this show.
Celebrate Soulfully – Disney California Adventure Park Live Entertainment
From June 1st through July 4th Celebrate Soulfully will be offering live entertainment at Disney California Adventure. This will include multiple celebrations of Black music genres that range from Doo-Wop to Motown. The Disney Parks blocks shared that during this celebration guests will be able to “feel the nostalgia of Carthay Circle and enjoy Philly Phonics, an a cappella vocal group, performing snazzy, jazzy, tunes from the 1920s through today.” Five & Dime will also be performing music from the 1920s and ’30s.
There will also be a block party with live musical acts offered nightly at Hollywood Backlot.
Downtown Disney District to Offer “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” and More
The exhibit on jazz, “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” will be found in the Downtown Disney District from June 1st through July 4th. The Disney Parks Blog shared this about this exhibit:
In the “Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure,” Joe Gardner – musician, mentor, and star of Disney and Pixar’s original animated film, “Soul” – takes guests on a musical tour across America, showcasing the rich history of jazz along the way.
As a tribute to a musical art form that was originated by African Americans, the exhibit illustrates the many different cultures and creators who influenced this evolving genre. Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with cultural institutions and subject matter experts to bring this story to life.
We are delighted to bring “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” out here to the west coast! Complimentary to all resort guests, the exhibit will be located in the building adjacent to Star WarsTrading Post.
Throughout the month of June, Downtown Disney will also be offering nightly live music. This will include genres like jazz, R&B, funk, Motown, and Doo-Wop. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons there will also be a DJ performing at the Downtown Disney LIVE! stage.
There will also be other ways for guests to Celebrate Soulfully this summer. More details will be released as the summer gets closer.
