For many fans visiting the Disneyland Resort during the holidays, it’s a small world Holiday is one of the highlights of a trip to the merriest place on Earth. This year, however, things didn’t go as planned for the beloved attraction. The holidays started and this holiday attraction remained closed. Today, the OC Register is reporting that this will be changing next week.
The delay in opening came from a flood of a maintenance room on November 10th. While the ride was being refilled, this maintenance room ended up flooded. This led to major damage to the “brains” of the attraction, right underneath the load and unload station.
A team that consisted of more than 20 departments and 75 cast members at Disneyland came together to repair the ride. The teams have been working 24/7 since the incident happened to get the attraction up and running again in time for Christmas.
First, the room had to be drained and dried. An industrial-grade dehumidifier was used to dry out the room. The dehumidifier was able to do this in about 48 hours. Once the area was dry, crews could assess the damage and see what could be used and what needed to be replaced. In some cases, the Disneyland team was reaching out to other Disney Parks to get parts for the attraction from their Small World or other attractions. Following the repair work, the teams then need to test and inspect the attraction.
The process to get it’s a small world Holiday open has been a worldwide effort. Disneyland received support from Florida, France, China, and Japan to get the attraction up and running again. The result is nothing short of Disney magic. The repair process that should have taken months was done in weeks.
A specific date has not been released by Disneyland for the reopening of it’s a small world Holiday. It is just expected to reopen again sometime next week. DAPS MAGIC will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
