Extra Magic Brought to Patients at CHOC with “Deck the Halls”

The holidays can be the most magical time of year, especially for children. It can also be a difficult time for some who may be spending it in a hospital. Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) wants to make sure that when patients and their families are at CHOC during the holidays, the magic still comes alive. The Deck the Halls campaign launched this week at CHOC strives to do just that.

“No one should have to be in a hospital during the holidays. With a little help from our supporters, we hope to add some cheer for those in need of healing and hope,” states Zach Abrams, Assistant Vice President of Community Engagement, CHOC  Foundation. “Our ‘Deck the Halls’ campaign is also an opportunity for all of our friends and supporters to donate in a meaningful way during this season of giving and fundraise for a worthy cause here in our own community.”

Deck the Halls is a new event that was dreamt up because of some of the challenges that COVID-19 brought about in the last year and a half. Partnering with long-time donor Disneyland Resort, some extra doses of pixie dust were brought to CHOC this year. Disneyland Resort transformed the lobby of CHOC with Disney magic to make a wonderland bringing happiness to the season throughout December.

CHOC is also getting support from other corporate partners to bring some magic to its patients. The support of Hyundai, Chick-fil-A, Credit Union for Kids, Tustin Toyota, Hill Brothers Chemical Company and Law Offices of Samer Habbas & Associates are allowing patients to get holiday tote bags throughout the month. On Friday, a virtual celebration was broadcast from CHOC’s in-house Seacrest Studios. This virtual party allowed participants to celebrate the season with Disney holiday cupcake decorating, gingerbread house building, storytime with Santa Claus himself, and other activities.

Because of COVID-19 Deck the Halls needs the virtual support of the community to help the patients of CHOC and their families. There are three main ways that people can help support CHOC during this time of year (and really year-round):

  1. DONATE – donations will help bring the magic of the season to patients and their families during December. Donations will help with toys, crafts, and activities for patients and their families. This will truly help carry the joy of Deck the Halls throughour CHOC throughout the month.
  2. SPONSOR – sponsor decorations to add extra merriment to the halls of the hospital. There are underwriting opportunities that include decorating each floor with different holiday themes, or lighting up the CHOC “Bridge of Hope,” funding balloon garland, and so much more.
  3. FUNDRAISE – This is incredibly important to help CHOC create more magical moments. Join the DAPS MAGIC Holiday Fundraising Team (or start your own) and then recruit friends and family to help with the cause and help bring even more holiday magic to CHOC this year!

DAPS MAGIC would love to help make a difference at CHOC this December and we would love if you would partner with us. You can join our team and/or donate at: https://www.chocwalk.org/deckthehalls/dapsmagic. The work that is done at CHOC is so much more than just healthcare. The team and its partners at CHOC really work with people’s hearts as they show love and care and create an environment that isn’t just a hospital. The result is an environment that feels like family. All of those who work at CHOC, support CHOC, and visit CHOC for its services really do care deeply for each other. The donations and efforts of teams like DAPS MAGIC help make that happen.

This season can be the most magical season of the year. It can also be a challenging time for families dealing with things that necessitate them to be at CHOC. Please join us as we support CHOC and try to add extra merriment for the children and patients of CHOC this holiday season!
