Disney has unveiled who will be portraying Snow White in its live-action remake of Disney’s first animated feature. Rachel Zegler, who is in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story as Maria, will be portraying Disney’s first princess. Earlier today she posted a video of her and Snow White with the caption “homegirl we have LOTS to catch up on.”
This new version of Snow White is being directed by Marc Webb. He has directed 500 Days of Summer and also The Amazing Spider-Man movies that starred Andrew Garfield. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale,” Webb said in a statement.
Production on the film is set to begin in 2022. At this point there isn’t an official title for the film. Disney hasn’t been pushing to get this done quickly so that they can get the music and the story right insiders say. Both of these are being expanded on for the film. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar- and Tony-winning duo behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen are currently working on new music for the film. This will be in addition to some classic songs found in the original animated classic.
