The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover has been closed since before the Magic Kingdom closed in March 2020. In an Instagram post today, Walt Disney World Resort President Jeff Vahle confirmed that the beloved attraction will be returning sometime “later this weekend!”
Originally called the WEDway PeopleMover, this attraction opened at the Magic Kingdom on July 1, 1975. It was based on the PeopleMover found at Disneyland at the time, but it utilized a different propulsion system. Instead of being run by rotating tires, Magic Kingdom’s version of the attraction utilized Linear Synchronous Motors. In the spring of 1994, the attraction underwent a fairly substantial refurbishment. During this time, it was renamed the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. During another refurbishment in 2009, the attraction again had its name changed to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
The attraction has had the most recent refurbishment extended several times and was most recently set to reopen on May 1st. Now, it appears that the PeopleMover will be reopening about a week ahead of schedule. What do you think of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover?
