Director J.D. Dillard and writer Matt Owens are reportedly working on a new Star Wars project. The news came from the Hollywood Reporter this week. Dillard, known for writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Sleight and Owens is known for Luke Cage and Agents of SHIELD are working together on this new project. Just where it will end up is currently unknown. It could end up on the silver screen or Disney+. Insiders told the Hollywood Reporter that a decision on where this project will end up hasn’t been made yet.
Disney CEO has indicated previously that the main focus of Star Wars isn’t the silver screen but is instead Disney+. He said, “the priority for Star Wars in the short term is going to be, I’ll call it television for Disney+, and then we will have more to say about development of theatrical soon after that.”
At this point, there are no known details regarding the plot, actors, setting, or even when in the timeline this project would take place. All that is known is that the Dillard project is not the same as the Star Wars film that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. It also is not the same project as Rian Johnson, who also was the man behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The outcome of this project will be a big question mark until an announcement is made from Disney or Lucasfilm. This summer at Star Wars Celebration announcements about future Star Wars projects will most likely be made. What do you think should happen with this one? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
