The Disney Wonder has just embarked on a new season from a new port marking the Disney Cruise Line’s arrival in New Orleans. This is the first time that the Disney Cruise Line has had a homeport in Louisiana. The first sailing was a special event with Princess Tiana, Naveen, and members of a New Orleans Treme Brass Band on hand to wish the ship bon voyage. This occurred as the ship said goodbye for the first time to its new temporary home of Crescent City on February 7, 2020.
This departure of the Disney Wonder begins a limited-engagement season for the Disney Cruise Line in Louisiana. This will occur again in 2021 as well. Guests on these trips will get to visit the Bahamas, Caribbean, and also Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.
The Disney Cruise Line is sharing that this gives those near New Orleans the opportunity to go on a Disney cruise without having to travel quite as far to arrive at the ship. For those coming from out of town, it creates an opportunity to experience New Orleans while also getting the luxury and adventure found on the Disney Wonder that connects with the town. This is particularly appropriate as guests eat at Tiana’s Place that was inspired by the Disney animated feature “The Princess and the Frog.” This movie was inspired by many of the locations and experiences found in New Orleans, making it a perfect combination for guests wanting to experience the “Big Easy” both before and during the cruise. The menu at Tiana’s Place is inspired by the food flavors and ingredients of Louisiana.
On the Disney Wonder, there is also the French Quarter Lounge. There, guests can enjoy the music of a live jazz band while also some New Orleans themed drinks. They can also dance the night away if they choose. Elsewhere onboard the ship, there are family activities, trivia, workshops, crafts, and even music to help bring the bayou experience to families aboard the Disney Wonder.
