Lunar New Year Celebration Begins at Disney California Adventure!

The Year of the Mouse Lunar New Year celebration has kicked off at the Disneyland Resort in Disney California Adventure this weekend. On Friday, Mickey and Minnie Mouse debuted new outfits for the Lunar New Year Celebration during Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession and also as they met with guests. Couple this with some new popular merchandise, food, and entertainment, this year’s Lunar New Year Celebration is already quite popular with guests.

Lunar New Year Entertainment

Because it is the Year of the Mouse, this year Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are a part of Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession (photos below). This procession takes place daily during the Lunar New Year Celebration. Mulan and Mushu are joined by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale along with performers for this procession. The dancers showcase dancing, martial arts, and drumming throughout the course of the performance.

There are other entertainment options being offered for the Lunar New Year Celebration. This includes a pre-show for World of Color called Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration. In it a little lantern seeks to reunite with its family. Each day, authentic Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese dancers and musicians can be found performing at the Paradise Gardens Park.

Lunar New Year Food Offering

There are quite a few different food offerings to enjoy during the Lunar New Year Celebration. This includes four marketplaces:

  • Longevity Noodle Co.
  • Lucky 8 Lantern
  • Prosperity Bao & Buns
  • Red Dragon Spice Traders

On top of that, the Paradise Grill is offering themed food for the celebration as well. There is also a Festival Cart inside Paradise Gardens. Over at Pacific Wharf, the Lucky Fortune Cookery is offering some special food options.

Extra Experiences

Guests can also stop by Paradise Gardens Park for some other special experiences. This includes the Lucky Wishing Wall where guests can write down and then tie their wishes to the wall with the hopes of them coming true. There are also complimentary arts and crafts to create as well. Another wall can help guests figure out what year they are and explains the different Lunar New Year celebrations.

There is also quite a bit of merchandise this year that is incredibly popular. Throughout the opening day, the Lunar New Year merchandise locations had long lines of guests wishing to purchase the merchandise.

The Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure runs from January 17 through February 9, 2020.
