Haunted Mansion’s 50th anniversary is quickly approaching at Disneyland. This favorite attraction will celebrate 50 years on August 9th. A special after-hours event will begin August 7th, however, and special merchandise will be first available for those attending.
Haunted Mansion Merchandise
Many items that are being made for the special event might only be available there. You can look at the many collectibles, shirts, and more here.
But, the Disney Parks Blog has announced that at least some of the commemorative merchandise will make its way into the parks on the 9th. Among them are some specially designed shirts and ear hats. Alex and Ani and Pandor are releasing special jewelry that will be available in La Mascarade d’Orleans. Of course, special pins will be available as well.
The most intriguing of the merchandise has to be the Host a Ghost jars. All that is described by the Parks Blog is that “With a ghostly giggle and a simple tap on these jars, Madame Leota will conjure your spirit to materialize for you.” The image looks as though it somehow lights up. Whether there is an actual sound that will emerge as well is yet to be seen. The jars will be available at a dedicated cart. Several ghost characters will be available including Constance Hatchaway, the Hatbox Ghost, and each of the hitchhiking ghosts.
Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving
The main event from the 7th to the 9th will have an interesting assortment of festivities. Guests will be able to check-in at the Disneyland Hotel at 9 am on their respective days. If they were able to purchase tickets before the Random Selection Process of merchandise then guests can pick up their merchandise after checking in. A dedicated store will be available with any leftover merchandise that wasn’t selected. Special photos will be available with complimentary PhotoPass.
From 11 am to 2 pm, and then from 5 pm to 8 pm, several artists will be signing products. Among those joining for this time will be Dave Avanzino, Jasmine BecketGriffith, Brian Crosby, Jim Crouch, Ron Daniels, John Daniels, Craig Fraser, Melanie Harvey, Kim Irvine, Kevin-John, Jerrod Maruyama, McBiff, Larry Nikolai, Joel Payne, Shag, and Javier Soto. Kim Irvine will not be at the signings on the 8th, and Dave Quiggle will not be at the signings on the 7th.
Then at 11:30 pm, guests can start to queue for going inside Disneyland, as at the 13th hour (1 am) the party begins! Special food items will be available, and guests will get 4 food tabs to sample these tasty treats. Besides food and the riding of the famed attraction, there will be a special kick-off moment with Madame Leota herself. Musicians and dancers will perform throughout to “wake the dead.” Characters from the attraction will be out and about from the mansion for the party-goers to mingle with. Special backdrops will be for those who wish to get more photos with PhotoPass. Other attractions in the surrounding area will be ride-able including Indiana Jones Adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mark Twain, Tarzan’s Treehouse and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The party concludes at 4 am and guests will have a special keepsake to take home.
Tickets are still available for either day and are going for $299.
