Auliʻi Cravalho Takes on ‘The Little Mermaid” Live As Second Color-Blind Casting of Ariel

Don’t you want to be where the people are? This Fall, Disney is making us a part of their world with a special TV special coming to ABC! “The Little Mermaid” live will bring the magic of the classic Disney tale, as well as the wonder of live theater, into homes across the country. When this live musical comes into your home theater on November 5, you can see Auliʻi Cravalho take on the role of Disney’s famous mermaid!

Of course, Cravalho, who is half native Hawaiian and also of Puerto Rican, Portuguese, Chinese, and Irish descent is no stranger to the world of Disney! When she was just 16-years old she stepped into the spotlight as she took on the role of Moana. She took on this daring princess who needs to become the chief of her Polynesian village, while also protecting her people from the dangers that lurk beyond the ocean. Her character has quickly become a favorite among fans anywhere and you are sure to hear her familiar voice belting “How Far I’ll Go” in Disney resorts around the country.

The casting of Auliʻi Cravalho comes just after the casting for the live-action Little Mermaid film was announced. Halle Bailey will be taking on the role of the Disney princess and is officially the first color-blind casting of the character. Both Bailey and Auliʻi Cravalho are incredibly talented performers and we can’t wait to see how each of them take on the iconic character and make it their own!

The cast of the ABC special will be rounded out by Shaggy as Sebastian and Queen Latifa as the epic sea witch Ursula!
