Sunday Spotlight: Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough

Sleeping Beauty Castle is really the gem of Disneyland. Every visit to Disneyland begins and ends with a beautiful view of this iconic building. Thousands of pictures are taken in front of it every day. However, inside this beautiful gem is a hidden gem that many taking pictures on the outside don’t realize is there. Inside Sleeping Beauty Castle is the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. It’s accessible through a door on the west side of the inner courtyard behind Sleeping Beauty Castle. It is a magical little experience that is a wonderful attraction to check out while visiting the Disneyland Resort.

Starting on April 29, 1957, guests were able to walk through the castle and see the story of Sleeping Beauty. The original designs were made to look like the work of Sleeping Beauty production designer Eyvind Earle. In 1977, it was updated to look more like the window displays on Main Street, USA. On October 7, 2001, the walkthrough closed. While no specific reason was given, the general thought is that it was due to the events of September 11, 2001.

Fast forward to 2008 and on July 17 it was announced that the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough would be returning. This time it would have updated effects but still, tell the story of Sleeping Beauty. The walkthrough reopened on  November 27, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. Along with the updated effects this time around, there was also a room in the castle that offers a virtual tour of the castle for those who are unable to climb stairs. The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough is a magical attraction to experience at the Disneyland Resort. It will be undergoing renovation this spring but will be returning soon.
