The Disneyland Resort will be hosting a Fried Chicken Celebration from July 6-8, 2018. This comes around National Fried Chicken Day which is July 6. This inaugural Fried Chicken Celebration will be taking place in two locations at the Disneyland Resort. At Disneyland, guests can get fried chicken at the Plaza Inn Restaurant on Main Street, USA. Flo’s V8 Café in Cars Land serves fried chicken at Disney California Adventure.
Plaza Inn Restaurant at Disneyland
The Plaza Inn restaurant at Disneyland has been serving fried chicken since opening in 1955. It was originally known as the Red Wagon Inn. The furnishings were hand-picked by Walt Disney’s wife Lillian. They reflect a Victorian style with authentic 19th-century interior furnishings. The fried chicken there is legendary among longtime guests. It has three pieces of herb-seasoned fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and a buttermilk biscuit.
The culinary director at Disneyland, chef Jonny Hall says, “our [Plaza Inn] sweet and savory brined chicken is lightly coated in a secret flour blend of garlic and spices, then fried under pressure to create a delicate and magical crunch. This simple approach known as ‘broasting’ results in a distinct deep golden brown color and crispy exterior, and an unbelievably juicy interior.”
Flo’s V8 Café at Disney California Adventure
Flo’s V8 Café in Cars Land now serves fried chicken at Disney California Adventure. This fried chicken called, Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken is served with vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, and gravy. Eating this classic American meal in the Route 66 themed Cars Land makes for a wonderful experience.
Chef John State, the culinary director for Disney California Adventure states that “our [Flo’s V8 Cafe] chicken sings of toasted flour and notes of a rich egg batter scented with prominent ground black pepper spice. While the exact science to this recipe is a secret that’s only known to Flo, we use a traditional basket fryer, ensuring there is a pronounced crunch with every bite and the meat is filled with sweet-salty juices.”
