Reboot of The Muppets Coming to Disney’s Streaming Service

Disney is creating a streaming service that will be available next year and will be competing with services like Netflix. This new streaming service will be full of Disney content. Some of this already exists, and others will be new. Disney is already known to be working on a live-action Star Wars television show and also a Marvel one. The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that The Muppets will be getting a reboot. Details about this show are unknown but what is known is that it would broadcast on this new Disney streaming service.

Disney acquired The Muppet Studios in 2004. Since then there have been movies made and an attempt to return The Muppets to the small screen was made. This recent reboot of The Muppets aired on ABC as a mockumentary and aired from September 22, 2015, to March 1, 2016. Unfortunately, it never really got its footing and was canceled after one season. The Muppets have continued to post content regularly on YouTube and other social media channels where they continue to be loved by fans.

The Disney streaming service will offer family-friendly content. Beyond Star Wars and Marvel, there are shows being developed around Monsters Inc. and High School Musical. It is expected to become available sometime next year in the United States and then will expand internationally sometime after.
