Indiana Jones 5 is coming but not a whole lot is known about it yet. However, one thing that is known is that Shia LeBouf will not be returning. Neither will his character, Mutt Williams. In an interview with EW, screenwriter David Koepp confirmed this along with the return of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, “Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say.” He also went on to say, “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”
This news will welcomed by many Indiana Jones fans who worry about a recasting of Indy and the return of the less than popular Mutt Williams character. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be a new protege that might eventually take up the hat and whip. It does mean that Mutt Williams will not be that protege.
Work has progressed nicely on the screenplay and apparently Koepp and director Stephen Spielberg are quite happy with it. Production could come soon as Spielberg has just finished shooting The Post. If his schedule and Harrison Ford’s schedule work out, a new Indiana Jones film could be underway soon. Koepp teased that this film will have “some precious artifact that they’re all looking for.” But for now, what really needs to be looked for is a hole in Spielberg and Ford’s calendar that lines up.
