Sunday Spotlight: Figment! – Journey in Imagination with Figment at Epcot

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I thought we would start a new sporadic series called Sunday Spotlight. Throughout this series, I will spotlight different things throughout the Walt Disney Company that quite simply… are awesome.

To start things off, I thought I would go on a journey to Epcot and highlight one of my favorite Disney characters: Figment. Originally Figment was a young and curious dragon who was learning from Dreamfinder. Fast forward a few decades and he is now helping Dr. Nigel Channing showcase the power of imagination as he pulls pranks on the good doctor in Journey Into Imagination with Figment. Through the years Figment has appeared in several other places including the EPCOT Educational Films series and also in the comic book series Disney Kingdoms: Figment.

Originally during development Figment was actually envisioned to be a green dragon. However, he was changed to purple on the insistence of Kodak who felt the green was too similar to the FujiFilm color. Figment initially was voiced by Billy Barty. Now he is voiced by Muppeteer Dave Goelz.

Today Figment continues to be the mascot of the Imagination pavilion at Epcot. Merchandise of this little dragon can be found throughout Epcot. A topiary of Figment also can be found at Epcot currently as well. I personally love the embodiment of imagination that Figment is. He is both fun and challenging. Figment will never grow old as long as there is imagination to fuel him and I think that is one of the things I love the most about this character. Imagination can take him anywhere so the possibilities are endless!
