It appears that Idris Elba is being eyed as the villain for Star Trek 3. Sources are telling Variety that the English actor is in talks for the yet to be identified role.

According to Variety, the rumors are that Elba would be playing a Klingon. This would be consistent with other rumors that have mentioned Klingons as having a bigger role in the future rebooted Star Trek movies. That rumor had really not panned out beyond a scene in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Star Trek 3 will be directed by Justin Lin. It will also see the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Anton Yelchin to their respective roles. The script is currently being worked on by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burke and Skydance’s David Ellison.

Production is set to begin in late June and is expected to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
