Yesterday saw the end of Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline as Minnie Mouse met with her musical crew for one last flight off the runway of Condor Flats at Disney California Adventure.
Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline was a retro feeling show that took guests back in time to the day when flying was a magical and exciting thing. It was the day when people would dress their best to go on an airplane. The show utilized music from the 40’s, 50’s, & 60’s as the flight crew Amanda, Pat, Kate were joined by Lee the mechanic to prepare for Minnie Mouse’s arrival.
The show did a wonderful job of mixing a love of flight, magic, and a bit of Walt Disney’s story as the flight crew and Lee prepared for Minnie. Throughout the show they sang and danced their way through Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airlines, a “Destination Medley” (Brazil, I Love Paris, Lady of Spain, etc), a Disney “Flying Medley” (When I see an Elephant Fly, Let’s Go Fly a Kite), Come Fly With Me, and Straighten up and Fly Right.
Cast of Final Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline at Disney California Adventure
There was a nice showing to say goodbye to this show that really helped propel the new Disney California Adventure away from an attempt at “pop” and into a more “classic Disney” feeling park of today. The final performance included guests, Annual Passholders (DAPs), regular fans, and quite a few cast members. A few of the audience could be found wearing outfits inspired by the flight crew of Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline. Cheers interrupted the show multiple times. The cast also interacted with audience regular guests throughout the show. Once it ended, the cast quickly disappeared from the stage for a few pictures without a lot of fanfare.
Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline had a wonderful timeless quality about it with wonderful harmonies, great music, and some humorous moments as well. There is something magical about a group of talented and passionate performers/singers coming together and singing Disney music. This is where true Disney magic comes from. Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline wasn’t a big showstopper. However, it would stop people every time they heard the music and saw the performers preparing for Minnie’s arrival… which included me. This was a show that goes into the category of shows like Drawn to the Magic. Let’s hope there are more added in the future.
The cast of Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline ended the show with class and dignity as it quietly ended a wonderful run. Perhaps it is fitting that this show would just fly off into the sunset in this way. However, it will still be missed by many. A hat tip goes out to all who were associated with this wonderful show. Thank you for making it magical.
Minnie’s Fly Girls Charter Airline debuted on February 17, 2012. It ended its run on October 20, 2013.
