While not a lot is known yet about Star Wars VII, it appears that John Williams will be the guy behind the music. At a press conference in Berlin for Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams confirmed the John Williams is the guy for the job.
“For ‘Star Wars,’ it’s very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was,” Abrams is quoted as saying.
For many Star Wars fans, John Williams’ music is synonymous with Star Wars. His themes are as recognizable and memorable as the characters and stories themselves. He has composed all six Star Wars movies to date. 45 Academy Award nominations, he is tied for the second most nominated man after Walt Disney. He has won 5 Academy Awards; one of which was for the original Star Wars.
“Neither I, nor George [Lucas], nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes … and years later another trilogy,” Williams said at a concert recently. “Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016 … so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George.”
Instead of working with George Lucas, Williams will now be working towards J.J. Abrams on what will be a continuation of both Luas’ and Williams’ epic storytelling legacy.
(ps. I was at this concert and saw THIS performance! Was one of my musical highlights!)
