Second Harvest Food Bank’s Kids Cafe Receives Early Holiday Gift

DAPs Magic Disney News – PRESS RELEASE

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 5, 2011 – Before the first note of Sunday’s Candlelight Processional at Epcot, Walt Disney World announced a gift – to the tune of $30,000 – for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s Kids Cafe. The program provides nutritious daily meals to more than 900 local children.

Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, United States and France, announced the gift for Kids Cafe, which has 13 different after-school sites in Central Florida.

According to Second Harvest, the issue of hunger in America has reached a critical stage, as one in four children struggles with hunger.

“No American, and especially no child, should go hungry, and we thank Disney for making it possible for us to help more families in more neighborhoods across the country this school year,” said Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “This donation will help our Kids Cafe program give parents and caregivers an additional way to ensure that their children receive hot and nutritious meals.”

In November, Walt Disney World gave Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida $500,000 to help the organization reach its goal of building a new, larger facility so it can accept and distribute significantly more food and reach more Central Floridians in need.
