The Monkees-inspired Canadian kids music show, titled The Doodledops, has been picked up in the US by The Disney Channel’s preschool programming block Playhouse Disney.
The show premieres on April 11, using the power of music and rhyming to help preschoolers strengthen their language and literacy skills. It is produced for Canadian public network CBC by Cookie Jar Entertainment.
The live-action series introduces three colourful cartoon-like characters – Rooney, Moe and Deede – who make up the eponymous pop group. Other characters include Bus Driver Bob and a puppet character called Mudge the Cat. It is exec produced and co-created by Cookie Jar co-founder Michael Hirsh.
Toper Taylor, president and coo, said: “The Disney Channel is the ideal home for the Doodlebops. Together Disney and Cookie Jar can leverage live performance, radio play and broadcast performance of this mega-preschool brand.”
Earlier this month, C21 reported that Cookie Jar was expanding into the UK and had hired former Skaramoosh alum Alison Warner as vp of distribution for the UK, Eire, Northern Europe and Africa.
The Montreal-based indie has also recently set up office in Tokyo and Paris. Sam Ewing, head of international distribution at Cookie Jar has been charged with the additional role of heading up the Paris office as svp.
